An Aussie once told me its because the Aborigines are typically small sized people while the Maori are built like tanks.

Lol I wouldn't believe that, something I've learnt is not to judge a person by their size, although I'm not sure if that was applyed back then.

Yes well, I get sick of maori people and the media claiming maori are the indigenous people of NZ. This is completely false. The Moriori are (and there are still some here in various degrees). The maori ate off most of the Moriori's.

Exactly. The maori always seem to forget that.

In addition the maori never really settled much of the south island and other areas so some of their land claims are pretty ridiculous. The waitangi tribunal has served it's purpose. Time to move on now.
