I've heard Kiwis referring to Australia the place as 'Aussie.' I.e., 'yeah I'm going to Aussie for work.' Not just one person but several times now that it seems like a lot of Kiwis do it. Kind of like if we called New Zealand 'Kiwi' lol. I'm not complaining too much, it's kind of cute, that our cousins across the Tasman would confuse an Australian person with Australia.

Nope, when being polite we use Aus, at other times Convictville.
Such as typical cheating convict wicketkeeper.

'That place with jobs' would be more appropriate.

My ears do not deceive, I've heard it at least four times now, both in NZ and here.

I used to hear kiwis refer to Australia as "Aussie" all the time.

I think it's just the common down under lingo of whacking off letters and syllables of words.

I've heard many an American here refer to Oz as Aussie as well. Pronounced more like Ossie in some cases. It's just lingo, a nickname. I don't mind or care.

Same for "The United States of America" ... it's more often referred to as: the US, America, The States, Great Satan , etc.

Aussie is the standard name for Australia around here. No confusion, just slang I guess.

I had to laugh recently, When a true blue "Ocker" referred to Honkers- Hong Kong.

True cricket and it's laws are complicated for those living in septicland, which is why you were given that simple game, baseball
