I understand that, while the census was used in the internment of Japanese citizens in WWII, that current privacy laws now prevent such a use.

Using Minimoms example from above, we should only get rid of the TOOLS that villians use, and not actually stop villians themselves. So if Japanese were interred, let's not look at the hate behind that. Let's just not fill out our census form, and outlaw bobwire, and tents, tents too!! Got to get rid of tents. Let's not address the hate that it takes to round up people and inter them. No no no, let's just blame the census and tents. We got a real brain trust here in the Austin Forums
Totalitarian governments use whatever tools they have at their disposal. Many of those tools are simply taken in the name of 'national interest'. If you don't fear any government getting too big and too invasive, well, you're not paying attention, brain trust or not. But everyone has to do what they feel they have to do to be a responsible citizen. I will continue to encourage everyone on City Data (your editorializing notwithstanding) to be the best citizen they can be- of Texas, Austin and Pflugerville. It's our responsibilty as American citizens.

Oh, here's a link to the long form, the "American Community Survey", for your perusal. What a sweet sounding name.

Its ten darn questions less invasive then the form you fill out to get a bank account. Get over yourself already.

We're a Representative Democracy if you dont like the rules organize a campaign and change them.

Until then too bad if you dont like filling out 10 innocuous questions do it anyway.
