We are in the process of building a home in South Austin and want to put in a nice patio and also have a built in grill / cooking area. We have a small covered patio already but want to extend it into the yard.

Does anyone have any idea on what this may cost and if you could recommend any people / companies?

The cost for patios can be very simple or very expensive. I have seen people spend $15,000 on an outside grill alone. The best bet is to set a budget you can afford and get what you can built for that.
What I mean is say you have $10,000 to start, so don't get that super expensive grill or hold off on a few apects of your design and make it a work in progress. There are a ton of variables involved any you can pm me and I can get you pointed in the right direction.

Great topic - I am interested in knowing what the component costs are for the various design aspects. For example, let's say I have $10,000. My design preferences are nice stone for the floor and grill enclosure, and a moderate-price grill. What stone types and grill types are in that budget?

My understanding is that right now the cost of concrete is pretty cheap, compared to the past. Depending on the size of the patio, it might be cheaper to just poor concrete and have it stained/scored. Obviously the bigger the patio, the more sense concrete makes. The labor of setting stones by hand and doing all the prep work is immense and just gets worse and worse the bigger the area is.

Are you doing some of the work yourself? Have any recycled building materials (old brick from a walk way) that factors in lowering the costs? I have a freind who poured a concrete patio and had insets put into it, little clay tiles in the shapes of flowers and leaves. Not my taste, but it did look nice.
