So we're going a little stir crazy in the house and want to venture out for a few days.

We've looked at the Great Wolf Lodge in Dallas (indoor water park) and the Gaylord Texan resort with it's ICE winter park - both in Grapevine. Both have mixed reviews and are at least $300 per night. Before we make the drive up there I wanted to see if anyone here has experience there or other ideas.

We have 3 boys (3,6,9). We'd consider anything within 4 hours of Austin.

We've taken the kids to Houston once but not Dallas.

Any other ideas? An indoor waterpark or funpark nearby would also work.

Thanks!

I took my kids to Sea World yesterday. The weather was perfect, sunny and near 60. And the crowds were very light. The longest we had to wait on a ride was 5 minutes. We got season passes last year and decided to use them 1 more time before the new year. I also heard that Schlitterbahn is open and has ice slides. I don't know what else you would do at Schlitterbahn though. Unfortunately the weather is going to turn ugly on Tuesday but the rest of the week looks pretty nice for outdoor fun. You might also consider the ice skating rink on top of Whole Foods, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the San Antonio or Austin zoo, the safari or the caverns at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch near San Antonio, Innerspace Caverns in Round Rock, rock climbing at Enchanted Rock. If you don't mind a 4 hour drive, you can check out the tour of the WWII Aircraft carrier USS Lexington in Corpus Christi and the State Aquarium next door.

How about the Blanton, Texas Memorial Museum, Fredricksburg, Pioneer Farms? South Congress? Ikea for meatballs?

When you went to Houston, did you go on to Galveston? Schlitterbahn has an indoor water park there. I've never been to the one in Galveston, so can't give an opinion on the place. They're closed New Year's Day, but open other days through January 3rd.
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island - is a family-owned, family-friendly waterpark!

We usually like to stay at the Galvez when we go to Galveston, although the last couple of times we've gone, they were booked up and we stayed on the Strand. Still, fun to see the ships in port in that area.

Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch. Go let the kids feed wild animals - they'll never forget it.
