My Husband & I are visiting Austin in Mid-June with our kids ages 12, 14, and 16. What are some things to do there that are fun for our whole family? We're going to be visting for about a week.

Rent a boat on the Lake, Check out some of the museums, check out a dude ranch, the bluebell creamery (although, it's in Brenham), New Braunfels (Go Tubing), Schlitterbahn, Barton Springs pool, There may be a festival going on (Get an Austin Chronicle; there is always a festival), watch the bats, walk around 6th street & surrounding areas. There is tons to do and see, and I know I haven't listed nearly everything.

Not specifically kid-related, but this is a really good thread:

Lots of people here on the Austin forum with kids so I'm sure they'll chime in soon.

That is a good thread. I've done several of those things with my husband and 4 yr. old daughter. She loves going "exploring". EVERY time we're in town, we have to go to whole foods so my husband can go through the walk in beer cooler. Never been to the burger place it mentioned, but glad to hear it's good. Another place we see often but need to actually go!

I'd second the recommendation for tubing and/or the water park (Schlitterbahn) in New Braunfels, that's pretty fun for any age kids (you've almost got 3 teenagers!)... also, the UT campus various museums and tower might be worth checking out in June, when there aren't so many students. Your 16 year old will probably be in awe. I wouldn't recommend 6th street, it's pretty boring during the day and at night not a good place to take the kids. South Congress, while not necessarily geared towards children, would at least have more to do during the day. And some great restaurants.
