Ok, how do you make new friends here? I went to a brunch yesterday called "New Neighbors" in Round Rock. Most were well over 70, I'm a young 57 that doesn't work. My club in Phoenix was a mix of ages, so this was very surprising to me.

Meetup.com might be a good place for you to find a group with common interests.

Thank you, but I checked it out and most meet in the evenings. I need things to do during the day, evenings are TV night with hubby.

You could always start your own club. I bet there are many more out there like yourself looking to make some friends.

I wouldn't know where or how to start my own club. I joined our neighborhood Bunco group and played 1 time, but what do I do the other 29 days a month? So I looked into that RR "New Neighbor" thing and it was a bust.

Maybe some on CD could meet up, if you live in RR?

A friend of mine started a group on Meetup.com and now has over 40 members. Just a thought. Good luck!

I'm your age and also new to the area but live in Canyon Lake. I did find an interesting sounding group in SA thanks to the link Mark posted. The next meeting is in two weeks.

It's really easy to start a Meetup. Does cost you a minimal amount, but the fee allows you to run up to 3 meetups. Figure out something you're interested in - even "folks in Austin who are a young 57" (my meetups consist of people from the early 20's to 70's) and see who shows up. There are lots of meetups that have lunch gatherings, by the way - you just have to find them.

What are you interested in? That would likely be one of the best ways to find sympatico friends.

Try going here (I did a search that was just within 10 miles of 78664 (no other qualifiers), then clicked on "What's Happening This Week", and there are a LOT of things that happen during the day. You could do a similar search but with your interests in mind.

I've had success with Meetup. Other suggestions are join a church (they have all sorts here, even for people who aren't really into traditional "church" and then you get to see people every week, which makes making friends a little faster than once a month), or volunteer for a charitable organization where you'd meet other volunteers. You could also take a class in something that interests you.
