This is not a country highway anymore! There are businesses and apartment entrances all along this stretch between 2222 and Boulder. I noticed a portion of the road had reduced speed limit to 55 mph but the signs are not posted all the way down. The police need to start enforcing this!

If someone is drunk driving, what good will a lower speed limit do?

Unfortunately it is two dead now. A mother and now the son according to an anecdotal comment on the Statesman. The son is anecdotally a senior at Vandergrift HS. This is really sad...

The driver will not get Nestande treatment for sure, and will likely get harsher punishment because of that case.

2222 and 620 are somewhat dangerous because of the hills and turns. But the major danger is the vast amount of traffic, speed, and cross traffic. Way to many people in a hurry to get to and from Austin trying to use roads that will never be expressways as expressways. Sorry to hear about recent deaths.

2222 in the late 60s and early 70s was a drivers paradise. Only two entrances from the time you left town until 620, Bull Creek and City Park. If you 'knew' the road, it was a rush on a fast bike or a decent car. Spent a lot of time with friends blasting 2222 on our bikes. Do not remember many fatalities back then maybe 2 or 3, not bikers but people who lost control of their cars.

Yes, it was a wonderful road to drive back then (my first trip on it was in my MGB, in the dark - that weas a trip!). Then lots of people who don't know how to drive moved out to LIVE at the lake rather than just visiting, and they had to gut the road to accommodate them. And still people die - speed, too much traffic, and cross traffic, and treating it like an expressway, as you said, are the cause, not the road.

The title is misleading. The accident was on 620, just north of 2222. What 2222 is like has nothing to do with this tragic accident.

Would also point out that the Prius that contained the two fatalities has been removed from Consumer Reports recommended list because of poor performance in front end crashes. Not excusing the accused, or blaming the victims. Just offering something to think about before your next car purchase.

2222 has been a dangerous road ever since I got my first driver's license.

Same as I said applies to 620. Cross traffic, speed, and I 'got to get there quick' mentality. When Travis was accessible by ramps at the dam, used to pull my boat on 620. People drove like idiots. I had a large boat so I was not going to drive like I was in a BMW. Other drivers cut me off, rode my a$$ honked and shot me the finger. Now I was not driving 35 or 40, but not trying to stay with traffic racing from light to light at 55 to 60. I am surprised that there are not more accidents.

I loved driving Bull Creek Road, 620 & 2222 in my 1960 MGA roadster during the mid-'60s. Almost nobody out there.
