Chuy....sounds like Chewy's. A local favorite, although I have never 'connected' entirely with their food. Great salsa and ritas, though, and usually good 'ambiance'. .

If you are looking for steak from a local restaurant, go to Austin Land and Cattle before Texas Land and Cattle...it costs more, but is well worth it.

And although Pappadeaux is a chain, they really do have good seafood, which can be hard to find this far inland....

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am so grateful for all of your wonderful recommendations-I can't wait to check these places out!

jennyb315,
I live just across the water from Seattle. I am really looking forward to the heat and sunshine! I have heard so many great things about the people in Austin-I'm glad to hear that your experience has been so positive.

yep-- so far so good except that the landscaping on my house sucks and isn't up to the bottom of the fence and my little doggie got out and tried to cross the street at rush hour and didn't make it

I've scoured all of the shelters in Austin and I haven't found the perfect dog to replace her--- we're lost without our little baby.....

anyhow-- the people are soooooooo nice----- I've only gotten honked at once and that was because I thought I had to pay toll so I slowed way down and I didn't-- opps!

The freeways and roads have numbers and names so that part is confusing and they don't just run N-S, E-W and there are no mountains to give you a sense of direction but after 2.5 weeks here, I got it down to where I can get to where I need to go.

I will miss the Pac NW summers-- I don't think there is anywhere in the US with better weather during the summer--- it's the rest of the year I can't handle anymore
