You might consider going to some of the game stores in the area. Dragon's Lair is more heavy on comics and role playing type games, but Great Hall games has board gaming every Friday night. You just show up with whatever you want to play, or play some of the open games. My husband and I live in southwest Austin, and we have a large group of friends who play together frequently. But if you are willing to play with people you don't know, I'd say Great Hall is the best choice.

Great Hall also has open gaming Saturday afternoons. I've been once on a Friday and once on a Saturday, and both times they had a good group there with very different games on every table.
