do you need a lawyer when your buying a house in texas? Im using a realtor and she told me that lawyers arent really needed in texas since the contracts are standardized. Is this true? Im coming from the midwest where ive always used a lawyer to buy a house before and im a little nervous doing it without one

Nope, don't really need one here unless this is not a standard type of deal. Make sure to have an inspection though.

Attorneys are rarely used by the individuals in purchasing a home, unless it's a complicated deal. The title company has attorneys, of course. The forms for most situations are written by the Texas Real Estate Commission attorneys. You CAN have an attorney, if you wish, and are advised to have an attorney look over the standard contract if you don't understand what it means, and there's a place on it for you to put your attorney's contact info if you'd like them kept in the loop and copied on everything, but I've only had someone fill that out once (and it was a non-real estate attorney licensed to practice, and living, in another state, so one who didn't have a clue about Texas real estate law!).
