Anyone know if City of Round Rock is planning to have silent crossing any time soon?

I don't like waking to the loud horn at 5:30 AM!

I know Cedar Park now has silent crossing. How can we get RR to implement the same?

Get people to stop parking on the tracks......I'm thinking silent crossings would be risky, but I don't know anything about them.

Why do people park on train tracks? Seriously.

I wish I knew. I've seen it here and it unnerves me to no end because those trains come through quite frequently. They had problems with it in Leander and Cedar Park when they were test running the commuter train.

I suspect that the loud crashes from trains hitting cars would be even more annoying.

Let them blow! Someone was just killed on the tracks in Austin this week.

exactly. That happened in Hutto several months ago too. For whatever reason you may be stuck on the tracks a warning horn would be a good thing to hear so you could at least TRY to get out of the way.

The only reason I see people stuck on the tracks is that they won't stay on the other side while there's a red light..they inch ONTO the track behind the car in front of them when they shouldn't..there's only room enough for one car between the track and the stop line.

I travel 685 and 1660 and see it all the time....there's no reason for it.

Quite a few years back my husband and I were driving on Anderson Lane. At that time, Anderson Lane crossed the tracks rather than going above them. It was night, about 9:45, and quite dark. As we were about to go over the tracks, suddenly I screamed at my husband to stop, because we were about to pull right in front of a train. It didn't use its horn and for some reason its light wasn't on. If I hadn't been looking in exactly the right direction, we would have been dead, because my husband was looking straight ahead where he was driving.

I think that horns at train crossings are a good thing. Even if they disturbed my sleep, I'd think so.
