I really really need web programmers to develop some websites of mine. They are pretty complex but will be worth it. I obviously know about web design firms, but they cost too much money. I'm hoping to find an independent individual that I can partner with...

Thank you!

I do my own web design. I do not know how to write programming, but I do know how to design and I know basic html.

I am not sure what you are really looking for, but let me know what all this consist of.

Thanks

I am leaving my position running the web design division of a large Austin IT firm. I will be doing corporate technical training and consulting in the area of web development. Reading between the lines it seems though you are looking for people to work in hopes of future equity in your idea? Unfortunately, I have had requests like this numerous times over the years. None of these incredible ideas ever panned out and whatever web developer was roped in to doing this wound up with nothing.
I'll take the cash... Web development and design as a combination of talent and hard earned skill. It's taken many years to learn and hone the skill set. I don't know why so many expect us to work for free...

I KNOW! I can't tell you how many people want to work in "trade." I used to do that, but I've stopped since I usually get the short end of the stick. Does this happen in other professions? "Hey, I need my roof re-done. I'll trade you this watch!"

This is why I never got into any web programming.

OP, if you want "complex" work done, the talent will cost you. If the work is not worth paying for, then perhaps you could invest in a couple of classes and do it yourself.

Now imagine if I walked into a hospital and said "hey, I want spinal neurosurgery, it will be quite complex, but I don't want to pay for it."

Thanks for that! I own a small, and by small I mean me and a few contractors in the Midwest, web technology consulting company and we do mostly complex web programming like ecommerce, content management, and other web apps. It is amazing how devalued people try to make us. I don't even bother with those people anymore. Its not easy work to do it the right way.

LOL,

If someone offered to do work like roofing, siding, other major home repairs in return for web programming work, I would probably trade services (hour for hour).
But only if the person had references and experience for the type of work they were doing.

There are a lot of independent web programmers looking for jobs on Craig's List. You might have luck there.

I actually have a web project I'm trying to find time to work on myself, and have considered finding someone to help me with it. But I actually want to pay cash only for the effort, I don't want anyone who helps to reap future benefits. It seems like, if you really believed your idea had future potential, you wouldn't want to give any of it away. (If anyone proficient in OpenLaszlo is reading this, send me a PM, please).

Sometimes trades work out. I bought a classic car and my mechanic does amazing paint jobs. That's his bread and butter and he does repairs on the side. He needs a website. I am willing to do direct trade for stuff like this. But generally what people want to trade is stuff I don't need or want.
