Can anyone give me some idea as to what the (property) tax benefits are on a historical home ? Someone told me that the property is taxed at half the assessed value, but they didn't know if that was the structures value or the land value. Anybody who has a historical property and knows this info please let me know !!! We're still house hunting after our last offer was declined a few weeks ago...and we're looking around downtown area now...but obviously how much our property taxes are going to be each year comes into play. As well as insurance !!

TCAD doesn't chop either the land or house. They just reduce your taxable value. Our house is zoned historical as well as homestead, and we pay considerably less than half of what we would. Be aware though that you are limited to changes to the house's exterior appearance.
