I am an absolute novice in this area!

I am planning to get two recliners. I am ok with moving all the furniture around except the TV. Only thing in this room I can't change are the couch and the loveseat. I can change the coffee tables, the end tables, the carpet, the vase, or whatever else you guys suggest. Now the question is: What color recliners should I get? What color recliners will go with the couch and the loveseat? leather or non-leather recliners? What color carpet/cusions/accessories should I get? How do I arrange the couches and recliners and the accessories?

Any help is appreciated. I have no idea how to make this room look good.

I suggest you get a piece of art, or an art-object like some colorful pottery, even if it is in a magazine illustration, something that really moves you, and start choosing your colors based on that.

The colors you have now are all pretty neutral, so that gives you a lot of freedom.

I wouldn't add recliners. Too much bulky furniture in the room. I'd take everything out (rugs, tables, etc.) as you're mixing traditional and contemporary (the sofas), and I don't think that ever looks good together.

Paint the walls the same color as that toasted color of your other wall in the picture.

Turn the couch and love seat on an angle to the TV so that between the two, you can see the fireplace. Put a small table between them that isn't bulky and doesn't block the fireplace.

When shopping for a couple of side tables and coffee table -
1) get a dark espresso colored wood
2) don't get matched sets of tables
3) maybe get one that has iron legs

Get a larger rug that is neutral in color, but might have some accent colors (like red). Great place to shop for floor rugs is World Market.

Get throw pillows or throw blankets for the sofas that are based in neutrals and have some accent colors (again, you can bring in some reds maybe).

The accent color you pick should be a warm color (reds, golds, oranges) as your floor and sofas are grey which are pretty cold colors. Accent color should be used in frames, vases, flowers, throws, pillows, books, other art objects.

Add a plant or two - large one in the corner.

I can't see it well, but the art around the window above the fireplace looks ok...I'd leave it.

If you put your framed art closer together, like only 2 inches apart, it will have more of an impact. Go to a designer store or a store like Pottery Barn and see how they do their bedroom vignettes.

I'd shop at Pottery Barn (the outlet in San Marcos has fantastic deals), World Market, Pier 1 and those types of stores.

Can we see a picture when you're done?

The first thing i would do is give the living area a new color is to pail and simple and no matter how much effort you put into what yu buy the diamond white kills everything. If you have a high ceiling go ahead and get a dark color not to dark but something not white and if is low ceiling go for something light from there it will be easier for you to do all the accomodations
