Hi there,

My husband has been accepted to UT in Austin for his PhD school! We'll be visiting soon, but i feel incredibly overwhelmed by how huge Austin is compared to where we're from (Lincoln, Nebraska).

Any ideas about which part of town to live in? We want to be pretty close to campus for him, but will be able to afford a bit more than the average college student due to my working full-time and his stipends. We're just not into super-loud parties all over our apartment complex, you know?

Plus, we're dying to get a dog. We've decided to wait until we move, but an apartment complex that allows big dogs (labrador) is a huge priority for us.

Oh, and I know that I'll be attending Unity of the Hills church if we move to Austin, which is north of campus, I believe. Anderson Mill Road? So something in-between those might be good.

Is my apartment search going to be impossible?

Any information you have about good areas, reasonable commute times and good reviews on apartments would be more help than I can even tell you.

Help a midwestern girl out!
Thanks so much.

Austin is very dog friendly.... I don't think you'll have a hard time finding a place.

Well at least you don't have a german shepard, I had trouble with my kiddo, had to get a home instead. I'm not a fan of apartment living at all. I think the only trouble you will have is paying a huge deposit for a labrador. Some apartments would take shepards, most would not. The big ones on the no list were: Dobermans, Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Chows, and most but not all would not allow shepards. I guess all cops who have a shepard do not rent?
