The mayor does. It's that "other people's money" thing.

I realize it is unscientific, but the 70/30 defeat poll here is very telling. The combination of tax weary voters, $1B in bonds on just this ballot, and the pro-rail but anti-PC faction send it down at least 60/40.

Some around here need to hide the sharp objects in their homes before November 5th.

Default Austin light rail: With friends like these …

Despite a lobbying letter from Let’s Go Rail signed by state Sen. Kirk Watson, the entire City Council and several Democratic legislators, and despite a brief appearance at the meeting by Leffingwell, supporters decided to pull the measure down without a vote and reportedly promised not to bring it back for consideration in the future. The buzz at the meeting, one elected official said to me, was that support was running at about 50 percent.

The Austin City Council is so obsessed with rail that it refuses to consider any other solution. They are ignoring the voters and will likely hear about it in the next election. They refuse to accept the fact that people need to drive their cars and only expanding freeways will relieve congestion in any measurable way.

"Mayor Leffingwell says there is no plan B for the city. If the bond doesn't pass, Austin will miss out on federal money, and there's no other transportation plan on the table."

$1 billion transportation bond proposition put on November ballot

So you either go with the mayor or you get NOTHING. Now that's real leadership. LOL.

It's not like they/CapMetro are actively pushing road improvements, bus improvements, bike improvements, commuter rail, pedestrian improvements, densification (to reduce/eliminate trips) as well.

oh wait.

Yes, they are.

Hmm.... did you see the mayor's comments?

"Mayor Leffingwell says there is no plan B for the city. If the bond doesn't pass, Austin will miss out on federal money, and there's no other transportation plan on the table."

Think LL is bluffing for the suburban vote. Many of those "projects" are cherrypicked out of current TXDOT plans- ex. Mobility35.

Look at all the projects started or being studied now. Not like if Prop 1 fails, ALL road projects come to a screeching halt. Ironically, as noted, some of the "road" stuff really falls into the rail design.

To many, this is an offer that can be refused.

When over 1/2 of the Prop 1 "road" improvements are actually rail infrastructure, that borders on mendacity.

Like an ABIA flyover, or Riverside 35 and 183 overpasses will do a whit to improve any of those pictures.

Yes, I did. There's only one transportation plan on the table, and that plan is multi-modal, and includes a lot more than rail.

""Project Connect is a regional high capacity transportation plan for all of Central Texas that includes, express buses on managed lanes, bus rapid transit and rail," said John Langmore, Board Member of Capital Metro."
