Just in time for SXSW.

Austin has the greatest concentration of truly excellent barbecue of any city in the world. The 78702 zip code alone features enough stellar barbecue—Franklin Barbecue, la Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meats, John Mueller Meat Co., Live Oak BBQ, and Kerlin BBQ—to make most other cities in Texas blush.

Lockhart & Taylor are just BBQ backwaters now.

No, they just don't have the media lovey swooney thing that Austin keeps getting. No wonder Austitude is getting out of hand lately

With so many excellent BBQ place in Austin now one doesn't need to make the trek out to Lockhart or Taylor anymore.

Amen, brother!

Probably one of the biggest changes in Austin in thirty years. Although it still is fun to make a Saturday road trip to say Lexington, Giddings, and back to Taylor. Just not practical for mid-week lunch.

Waiting in lines that can be hours long is practical for a mid-week lunch?

You wait in line, because you don't know where to go.

You mean places not listed in the guide you posted? All the best/most popular listed in the guide have long lines. The others listed are good BBQ places, but are nothing special.

I regularly go to one of the places listed, during the week, for lunch. I have NEVER waited more than 15 min. Maybe, since you don't live here, you only know what the weekend waits are like. Then, who cares?

And since you've been to them all, is Kerlin or Micklethwait's better?

I don't when I'll next be there to check it out personally, but this morning one of my old Austin buds voted Kerlin "Best Austin BBQ You Don't Have To Wait In Line An Hour For."
