We got a quote from a pool builder recommended to us by a realtor we met. His proposal looks good but we can't find anything about him or his company - beyond a Facebook page - on the internet. Anywhere else I should look to try to get some objective comments about his work? Seems strange he doesn't have a website or a listing on the BBB or Yelp.
Thanks

I think you answered your own question. Go with your gut and choose an established company. There are too many horror stories out there from people who have been taken.

Best of luck.

We used a small guy, mainly because his #2 was the son of a guy I went to college with - trusted him. Wasn't misplaced, but one thing we don't think about is that the small guy has ZERO clout with his subs - and it is ALL subbed. When something is delayed, guess who gets it last? Certainly not Cody, or Anthony or any of the other big guys.

Something to factor in.

Ask them for references.

Thanks everybody. The guy did give us a couple of references - one I haven't been able to get in touch with, the other turns out to be a "custom builder" and says the pool designer is "incredible, brilliant, etc." almost a little over the top. I asked the builder who gave the reference how come I can't find a trace of the guy's company on the internet, no reviews on Yelp, no BBB, etc. and he said the designer had worked with another company, that didn't work out and he struck out on his own. The person who originally gave us the pool designer's name is a real estate agent who was a builder, too.

If the design the guy hadn't been so interesting and the price competitive, I wouldn't be pursuing - but the designer really did a great design. He's a young guy so maybe that's why he is "invisible" on the internet?
