Sorry if you read our previous post but we added some info and just re-posted with a new title.

Our family (2 kids, 5yrs and 1.5yrs old) will be relocating to Austin from Tulsa this summer. We have friends in SW Austin and generally like the area (at least what we are familiar with after several visits) but are curious of other areas in or around Austin that people enjoy raising a family. We would like to get our girls in a language immersion program. From what I understand within Austin ISD it is a lottery for the language immersion programs at the elementary schools, not sure if that is the case with smaller school districts around Austin. I am currently working on getting all of our paperwork together but would like some feedback on which schools in Austin, or school districts around Austin, are preferred over others. Our daughter will be entering 1st grade in the fall of 2013. We will have to rent at first and need 3 bedrooms/2 bath, preferably a garage and would like to spend around $1400/month. We would like a house but realize that it may not be a possibility with that price range. We will be self-employed and work all over the city so a specific area is not necessary for "being close to work." Any advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

There are some great ISD's that are around Austin - Round Rock, Leander, Dripping Springs - but I don't know that any of them have immersion programs to offer. Are you wanting Spanish? Mandarin? French? There is a spanish immersion school (private) that has 3 locations in the Austin area but I don't know of anyone specifically who attends there. Austin ISD for all it's faults is trying to be a leader in this area. I'm sure that's why it's a lottery - many more parents want this than they can accommodate. There are alternatives - afterschool programs and immersion programs that run like camp in the summer.

AISD has dual language programs at several elementary schools, is that what you are looking for? Travis Heights, Becker, Ridgetop, and Sunset Valley have them, there may be others.

Usually students who reside in the school's residential zone have preference.
