We are looking to do a pretty significant remodel to a bathroom that will require some creativity. I'd like to engage an architect that has been there and done that-- many times-- and I am wondering how you found your architect, how you selected him or her and how much the price varies between a small, maybe self run business to say, a large name firm like you see on many of the house tours. Any information you can provide will be helpful. If we want to spend $20-25k, for example, would it be worth it to use a large firm (as seen in ads toward the front of Austin Home and such). Thank you!

We have worked with Loyd at Specialty Builders on some small projects, but he mostly does the kind of thing you're talking about. He is a real perfectionist, highly recommend him. Link to his website is below. You could always meet him, see what you think, get an estimate. It's definitely an alternative to a big firm. Good luck!

A smaller firm is definitely better for something like this, they have less overhead.

I recommend Jefferey Barger, he has a small business. He has an architectural degree but has always worked for years in the residential design and construction area, where a license is not required by the state. I highly recommend him. I'm sure he would do a good job for you at a reasonable price.
