Looking for a non-fiction biography related to people or events of Texas Independence. Any suggestions from experience? Thank you if you have one.

Found one for the teen now in the process of finding one for adult. I'll check out the Michner one. Looking for one that isn't mainstream. "The other side of the story", so to speak. Non-fiction.

Texas is historical fiction, and in no way a biography. It has some real characters, but many fictional - like many of Michener's works. I would recommend The Raven, Sam Houston's Pulitzer Prize winning biography. Read it several years ago, and it is a fantastic account by someone who was involved in every step of the Revolution.

"The Stubborn Fisherman" By Elda May Roberts, the fisherman's wife. A great true story about a fishing guide and his wife in the Port Aransas area. From 1929 through their lives together.

"Aransas: The Life of a Texas Coastal County"
Amazon.com: Aransas: The Life of a Texas Coastal County (9781571681669): William Allen, Sue Hastings Taylor, Perry R. Bass: Books
A collection of true historical and anecdotal stories put together by the Aransas County Historical Society.

Even though the following books are fiction they are well researched and considered to be some of the best historical fiction written about Texas. I highly recommend the first three books in his Texas Ranger series
Author: Elmer Kelton

The Buckskin LIne: Tx Rangers #1 *****
Badger Boy: Tx Rangers #2 *****
*The Way of the Coyote: Tx Rangers #3 *****

Buy the individual books. There is a 3 book compilation hardcover available that is so heavy it is a pain in the ass to read. I do not recommend it for that reason.

I read this book when I first move to Texas and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well written and very interesting.

Almost anything by J. Frank Dobie:

Many of his works contain vignettes, anecdotes, and stories about some of the Texans who fought for Independence. Nobody else can give you the feel of 19th Century Texas like Dobie can.
