The river's not private but access could be.

Blue Hole is on a creek not the Blanco River. You can get on the river at Little Arkansas for free.

My issues living in Wimberley would be that the traffic is horrific for a town its size and if you have kids, while the schools are pretty good, residents have historically shown no support for improving them or building new schools to keep up with growth.

When did Little Arkansas open up again...? you must be talking about somewhere else, or havent been out in a while.. that was closed ages ago.

Houston News - A River Ran Through It - page 1
Also, creeks and rivers are treated the same by the residents, if its on their property, they feel they own it, whether they do or not, unless you know the landowner, you will NOT be welcome, river OR creek.

If you're floating on the river, your 3 options are: drown, trespass, or float down to the Gulf of Mexico?

am I understanding this correctly?

Actually, where there is no immediate access, you have the right to access the river by private property. I am paraphrasing, though, and not sure what the wording actually says, since most rivers/creeks have at least some sections that are bordered by public land or are crossed by a public road (which therefore has a right of way that you can use).

Default Nope

Trainwreck, they have made that virtually impossible.. It could be done if you were brave, and dont mind heckling. The general public, including the residents themselves really cannot use the river unless they are a landowner or friend of one. . No place to put in, or park, and menacing signs all over reading pvt property..
Again possible yes, but compared to nearly any other river in the area, Wimberley is not welcoming, at all.

Just out of curiosity, since I have never canoed that stretch of the Blanco (I have been further down). Can't you park at a friends and portage your canoe down and put in at RR12? I have nice little wheely things that strap on my boat . Not really trying to upset anyone, and with this weather it is a moot point, but it is one of the few really nice rivers around here that is usually (when not in drought) a fairly decent looking float.

It also looks like (from google earth) that there might be access on a couple of crossings right off river road (although parking does look much more problematic there).

I have put in at 5 mile dam in Kyle and gone upstream, but the drought stopped us within 2 miles. I agree it would be a great river. No one could really stop you if you put in, and had enough water, but the stories I have heard of people getting yelled at (and more) by landowners sat in the river in lawnchairs, make it too scary for us with kids..
