One last word.............one year we bought a live Christmas Tree which we then planted in our yard that first year our first child was born. I believe it is still there, and hopefully will continue to thrive for years.
My wife (back before she was my wife ) bought a potted Christmas tree many years ago. It was an Afghan pine (probably the most common around here) and it did well in the dry years, but had issues with the alkalinity of the soil and the amount of rain we (typically) get. It eventually was stressed to the point we had to cut it down, although it had grown into a huge tree over the years. If you do get an Afghan pine, make sure you research into the care for them. You need to acidify the soil (coffee grounds work, although there are other store products, as well) and try to plant it in a well drained area.
