We're contemplating a move to Austin and are interested in the Hyde Park Baptist Schools. Does anyone have any experience with them? Thanks for any help!

We will be sending our kid there next year. We've toured the school 4 times. We are really impressed with the curriculum, atmosphere...really everything we've seen. We've questioned kids that attend there outside of tours (harassed them at P.Terry's since they had on HP Baseball shirts) and were really impressed with what they had to say and the politeness they exhibited. Parents we have met have been very friendly also. The sense of community seems to be really strong. I will say if you are looking for a fundamental Baptist school, HP probably isn't the place since they told us directly that they do not teach Baptist doctrine but instead integrate common Christian values into their daily lessons. Even being 100% heathen, I am completely at ease with our decision to send our kid there.

achtungpv - thank you for your response. we are touring the school on monday afternoon and are looking forward to it. i am happy to hear that the kids and parents are friendly - this will be our second time being the "new family/kid" and being in a welcoming place is so important for a smooth transition and feeling connected quickly. we are not baptist, but are gospel-believing christians, so i think we feel comfortable with their approach to teaching the kids - but definitely plan to find out more about this next week. i really appreciate you sharing your insights - very helpful to me during this crazy, life-changing time!

My nephew transferred there into the new high school campus for ninth grade 2 yrs ago and loves the school. Seem to be doing a good job of learning the basics and then some. He is very happy with it and the parents are also. However, its not for every kid, his brother goes to one of the Lake Travis ISD school and loves that so to each there own.

I agree with Neddy.......I know a couple of people whose children go there for high school, and love it. I also know an adult I deal with on a professional level who went there. It's very small and may work for certain kids, but not my children.......they are very, very social and enjoy a bigger environment. I think it just depends on the child, but again, I have heard good things about it.
