Hubby is shopping for a new job. He's a software engineer and Tipping Point has offered him a position, but they were recently purchased by HP. Just wondering about corporate culture there, or at any of the large tech companies in Austin.

Thanks!

Tons of large tech companies in austin. National Instruments, IBM, AMD, eBay, Facebook. I think they're all pretty corporate.

I work for a company called Bazaarvoice - they're smaller but the culture is awesome.

I worked for HP many moons ago. HP used to go by the "HP way" but that was largely disintegrated when Carly took over. "The HP way" is a published book so you may want to read it: Amazon.com: The HP Way: How Bill Hewlett and I Built Our Company (9780887308178): David Packard: Books

Carly effectively destroyed the culture there. They still are probably one of the best companies for work life balance though. I've moved on though.

That's interesting since Bazaarvoice is one of the companies I would be interested in if I moved to Austin. They are one of the few companies that seem to use Scala. I am language agnostic (to a point), but Scala has turned out to be the perfect language for me to use.

These companies don't hire many software engineeers. All of them are primarily electronics or chip oriented.

2 years later (from your comment date), I am curious if things are still as good (or better or worse) at IBM.

If you are a career IBM man - and have held your job - probably about the same.

Otherwise.....
