For a long weekend. We are just looking to walk on the beach, eat and hang out. If you have recommendations on a place that you like to stay that will be helpful as well. Thank you!

For Port Aransas we like the reasonably priced Sandcastle condos to rent.

For South Padre, the LaQuinta on the north side of town is very adequate.

For a weekend, I would definitely recommend Port A. Lots of nice places to stay on the island. Sandcastle is definitely nice. We like The Courtyard because we like to drive on the beach and it's right on the access road. Jay's Seafood and Spaghetti Works is one of our favorite places to eat.

South Padre is kind of far for the weeknd. It is a nicer beach though, although in my book, any beach is a good beach!

I'm not a beach bum, but Sis and her friends have always liked The Dunes condos.

I'd say Port Aransas for a weekend as the drive to S. Padre is so long.

The Coral Cay is nice (condo's you can rent for the weekend w/kitchenette's on the beach and in town). Good restaurants are Shell's (gourmet), Beulah's sushi bar (David is the sushi chef or was the last time I was there and he is great), Marcel's plus they have a dock area w/alot of restaurants and bars that are popular and then there is Sharkey's... the late nite party central on holidays and weekends but it has been a few years since I have been there and things may have changed a bit but probably not much. There is a Cajun restaurant where they throw half live critters on a piece of butcher paper "bon apetite". Shorty's is a good place for a beer and a game of pool. South Padre has a nicer beach but it is a very long drive for a short weekend.

The Port Royal Resort just outside of Port Aransas is a great place to stay.

On a side note, if anyone posting Port A recommendations happens to know if the facility is pet friendly and wouldn't mind mentioning it, I'd appreciate it.

Thread is 3 years old ... do the sentiments and recommendations still hold? Thanks.

South Padre, obviously. But i'd rather go to Alabama or Florida.

I have a friend-of-a-friend who got a flesh eating bacteria in Port A about 2 months ago and they had to remove all of her female organs, her colon, and she will never walk again. I know this was probably the worst lottery to ever win, but it will definitely deter me from going anywhere near a Texas beach.
