Nah, probably just drunk. It's nicknamed Wastewood for a reason.

Hispanic 1171 1099 1127
White 1167 1205 1330

The level of variability in the white population is interesting.
What are you saying? Are SAT scores lies?

I would rather have data like all of the above & come to my own conclusion as to what they mean....as opposed to touchy feely terms like "exemplary" which doesn't mean squat anymore.

Question on "Af Amer" in the quote. Did you miss a number.....or does one of the 3 schools not have any blacks?

The average white (& hispanic) parent(s) of a Westwood teen probably makes less than 1/2 the salary that the average Westlake teen parent(s) make. Don't forget the economic part of socioeconomic factors.

& let's not get into what Westlake is nicknamed/known for.

& who decided that 1167 was "dumb" & that 1207 was smart? (I'm guessing the variance has more to do with SAT tutoring....which is expensive...than anything else).

You know, "lies, damn lies, and statistics"

Yes, nothing was reported for AA's in Westlake for 2009 (and 2008) due to the small number of students, _not_ because there were none in the category. Their explanation is that the number of students is so small that one could possibly suss an individuals score (or approx range) if the average is given.

Since there is a running thread on school budgets, here's some more fat to chew on:

Total expenditures per student:

Westlake - $7529 ($5052 67%)
Westwood - $6035 (4128 68%)
LASA - $6072 ($4113 67%)

The values in parenthesis are the amount spent per student that is listed as being spent on "Instruction" vs things like "Support Services" and "Other Campus Costs". The percentage is the percentage of the total that that amount represents.

Speaking of "other campus costs", let's look at the amount being spent on that category:

Westlake - $1162
Westwood - $815
LASA - $153

I assume LASA comes in so low because a significant portion of those costs are likely shouldered by the LBJ side of things.

Probably ought to bus them to Bowie so they can bring UP Bowie's average score.

in case you missed that.......

hmmm. I'm not sure what to think about that.

Lots of good data, nerd. Thanks for posting the extra info.

I'm down with it. I think it makes sense, if there is only one AA (or whatever) in a particular school and they report the AA "avg" as being 1600, then it's obvious that that student got a 1600. If there are two AA's and one got a 1600 and the avg is reported as 900 then at the very least the one who scored 1600 would know that the other scored 200. Plus, if we're looking at numbers this small, it's not statistically (or practically) interesting anyway.

Glad you like the data. We've been looking into high schools even before our kiddo got into middle school. I wish they'd throw some median and std deviation numbers in there, it would be more interesting than these simple averages.

Agreed....definitely makes sense if there are two or less in a class.

Have the scores for the two new LISD schools been posted? (i realize that there probably isn't two years for averaging)

Vandegriff & Rouse.

No SAT (or ACT) numbers for those two schools in the 2009-10 report card.
