I am doing as much due diligence as I can as I consider moving to Austin.

Generally speaking, how are the insurance rates based on areas of the city?

This is a very broad question and depends on the amount of drivers and coverage you have. I would say for a husband and wife with two average vehicles with full coverage the average rate would be about $1200-$1300 a year.

Definitely very broad but here is what I have:

USAA. 2 cars. 2 drivers. $250 collision deductible. $100 comprehensive deductible. $120/month.

Definitely go with Dean Davis. He will give you an unbelievably low rate. I am 21 so my rate (for myself) anywhere else would be around $250/month. Dean Davis offered me and my husband together for 1 car $66/month.

Three cars, two drivers, also have our home insurance (both houses) with them, Williamson County, $591 a year. Was a little bit (not much) more when we had a teenaged driver. Germania Insurance. Only available in Texas. (Property insurance on our rent house in Barton Hills - middle of Austin if you're not familiar with Austin - is $1291/year.)

I believe that your insurance rates will be based more on things like: past claim history, credit score, etc. We have Farmers Insurance and have been very pleased. Their rates went down earlier this year (luv that).

I agree with the above comments. I would also say use a broker to shop around between multiple companies (rather than an online broker) as in my experience this leads to lower prices. we recently used one with great success. some companies also have better customer service reputations than others so all companies are not created equal
