Rumor has it that a Walmart Supercenter is going on Tobacco Road....still no word on a South Augusta Target however.

Now that's a twist on the HWY25 Peach Orchard corridor notion...

Is the rumored Walmart close to Dean's Bridge Road, Windsor Springs Road, Peach Orchard Road or Mike Padgett Highway?

Let us look at the immediate stores along the route:
  • Bi-Lo #5292, 2512 Tobacco Road, Hephzibah, GA 30815-7099
  • Food Lion #407 4104 Windsor Spring Road, Hephzibah, GA 30815-5984
  • Food Lion #1447, Colony Plaza, 2115 Windsor Springs Road, Augusta, GA 30906-4855
  • Food Lion #1540, 3722 Mike Padgett Highway, Augusta, GA 30906-9719

Bi-Lo #5292 is the only store listed with a pharmacy department. That is an advantage for a supermarket.

While we need a Target I highly doubt Walmart will be told no especially if the land they are building on is already zoned for commercial and most of the land along Tobacco Rd is.

I'm not sure where exactly. The Food Lion in Colony Plaza won't be affected since its already close to the Walmart on Deans Bridge...less than a 5 minute drive going up Bobby Jones. This could definitely affect other stores.

I am trying to visualize a site where Walmart is likely to locate. Most Walmart stores are near immediate competition on major roads with great accessibility and visibility.

If Walmart is looking to cluster with immediate competition, locating on Tobacco Road at Windsor Spring Road will compete directly with Bi-Lo #5292 and Food Lion #407. Going out to Dean's Bridge Road or Peach Orchard Road, you have many residential communities along Tobacco Road.

I have a feeling it will be between Peach Orchard Rd and Windsor Spring Road which means it will compete with Food Lion and Bilo on tobacco Rd plus BiLo on Peach Orchard Rd.

If anything comes to fruition from this it will more than likely occur at either Windsor spr. tobacco intersection behind the new Walgreens there's a large plot of available land that stretches down Windsor to Checkers and Sprint or along peachorchard rd at tobacco another large area that backsup to Gracewood, railtracks and phinzy rd this includes the area on the once proposed amphitheater out of the 2, I would place my bet on Windsor tobacco area with the widening of Windsor and the new home construction around Diamond lakes area it would be more centralized.

I forgot about Bi-Lo #5542, 3457 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA 30906-5768. It underwent a paint job and redecorating, but it did not undergo significant improvements. The store lacks a pharmacy. Being in a pharmacy desert, that is a missed opportunity.
