I am relocating from a suburb of Detroit to Georgia. My company is located in Norcross, so I am looking for day care for my son (I would prefer in home). The problem is, I have read and heard that Norcross has really bad areas and then a good area. Which is which? Between which roads? I don't have any idea which areas I have to steer away from and I certainly don't want my son in any kind of danger.

Also, looking for apartments. Again, hearing Norcross is not entirely safe, and not have any idea the areas that are safe, I am looking in Cobb County for an apartment. (Marietta, Smyrna). How are these area's? I also heard that traffic is better coming from that direction into Norcross versus going north (Gwinnett County).

I appreciate anyone's suggestions or feedback. This is a huge move and I feel so incredibly lost and overwhelmed.

Thanks!

Don't pick Marietta or Smyrna. That's too far away. I-285 traffic is unpredictable, to said the least. Norcross near PeachTree Parkway (the shopping center called Forum) is very nice. But I doubt there is any apartment there since it is very high end place. The best bet is either Dunwoody (near Marta train station) or Duluth (a little bit north of Norcross). Be ready to pay a little more money for a safe apartment. There are a lot of cheap apartments around PeachTree corner (I didn't know better when I first move here). Don't rent any one of them. Those are pretty crime ridden places.

One co-worker of mine lives in Marietta and work here in Duluth. It took him around 45 minutes in the morning. But in the afternoon, it took him at least 1 hour (maybe even 2 hours) to get home. Like I said before, Duluth is just a little north of Duluth.

Most apartments in Norcross are not very good (around peachtree circle road). Post properties have a couple of apartments in Dunwoody. Those are in pretty good locations. So do Gables properties.

Norcross is not to bad as long as you have protection, firearms, and a possible hand grenade.
Norcross is industrial, but also the worst crime rate in Gwinnett County.

If you work in Norcross, 9 chances out of 10 you will be between Exit 99 and 102 of I-85.
Duluth is not to bad, Lawrenceville, and Buford are much better. There is a nice apartment complex by the Mall of Georgia off Exit 115.
I work in S. Duluth and it takes me about 25-35 minutes to go from Exit 120 to Exit 104.

Personally, I would not live in the Norcross area, and with children for day care, no way!!! There are plenty of day care locations in Lawrenceville and Duluth. ie. Legacy Academy, etc.

Good Luck

A couple more suggestions. If you want to live in Duluth, a couple of apartments near new KoreaTown (Pleasant Hill and North Berkeley Road). Also, the apartment next to sugarloaf country clubs are pretty good (Gable at SugarLoaf is one of them).
