...Where would it be and why?

So many of us who are moving to Atlanta keep asking, "Where should I live?" as if you all should pick for us. So maybe this is a better way to ask! For those of you who already live in the area, where would you live if you could have your pick ? (Or maybe you like where you are already?) Pretend you have no limitations, then tell us why you picked it. Is it because of low crime, recreation, schools, shopping, restaurants, beauty, nice houses... or what?

I'd love to know what draws people to the different areas.

This is an interesting topic and this thread had some good replies>>
Most coveted parts of town

I think I would be searching the Emory/Druid Hills/Morningside/Inman Park area.

There are parts of Roswell/Alpharetta along the Chattahoochee River that are very, very nice but I wouldn't like the traffic.

From Peachtree Corners to John's Creek along Peachtree Industrial Blvd is another very nice area. Love the 'Hooch.

Midtown or Ansley Park. Great/excellent in all categories:

recreation
schools (Springdale Park or Morningside, Inman, and Grady!)
shopping
restaurants
crime (well, this is relative...I use to live in a dangerous South American country for several years!)
beauty
nice houses/condos
convenience
gyms
grocery stores
MARTA/transit
walkability
bucolic
trees
architecture
nightlife

...etc.

This should close the thread right now!

Because family is my priority, I would really live where our commutes would be sane. (Actually, that is exactly how I live.) Every housing choice we have made in the last 20 or so years, had commute as the first factor.

We are lucky to live in a Metro area with so many choices and you can find, at almost any price point, a reasonable commute with decent schools and a variety of housing choices.

So true! (And I wish more people would realize this...well, maybe most already do...that's why Atlanta Metro keeps growing and people keep wanting to live/move here!)

Default Vinings

I would select Vinings, especially since I work in that area.

It's convenient to 75/285/Northside, and I love the topography.

Lovin Decatur knows of a particular little area within the Emory/Druid Hills section that I would like to see. As I recall she describes it as 'funky'--I've lived here for decades and haven't seen that yet but I want to.

I love to drive through VA Highland/Inman Park and all around Piedmont Park. Those homes have such character and charm.

I live further north off Briarcliff close to Executive Park and a few 50's ranches have been renovated with the Bungalow style that you see intown.

I also love to drive through Avondale, just minutes from Decatur which is wonderful. Growing up in this area before there were malls we all went to Decatur a lot for shopping, etc.

If I ever moved 'far away' I think Buford will be a good place to live. There are some lovely historic homes in that area and they have Lake Lanier and lots of green space.
