Hello and good morning all. I really need some help here because i have offers to teach at Norcross Elementary and Simonton (Central Gwinnett). We will be coming to visit soon. They are both title 1 schools which i asked for (for Fed. gov. program to help pay student loans). I heard Central Gwinnett is not a nice area. I would like some info on these areas (crime, schools, recreation - specificly age group swimming for 9 yr olds) and surrounding areas that may be a better place to raise my son and for him to go to school that wouldn't not be to bad of a commute if these are schools i might not want my son in. What is there for families and kids in these areas. As i said, looking for swimming program, he is on the swim team in MI. Also looking for plenty of recreation, family friendly area and of course "good schools" as every says on here. Thanks in advance for any info you can offer.

From your previous posts and requirement (buy a house around 150,000 range and possible near hog farm), I vote for Simonton elementary. Most areas around Norcross are either relative expensive (250,000 for starter home) or very crime ridden. You maybe able to get a home in Grayson, Dacula, Auburn or even Windor area for that price (I don't know that's possible but that's more likely than West Gwinnett). Also, those areas a lot more rural than West Gwinnett area.

All I know is that my aunt lives across the street from Norcross Elementary--and she can be 'Difficult'---<evil grin>.

I would teach at Norcross Elementary----shrug--taught in inner city Savannah--and have ESOL certification---the Norcross community is doing a lot to get the Gwinnett Village area stabilized--should not be too difficult in an elementary school. (Middle school teacher myself and that is a different world.)

'No Child Left Behind' might be hellacious/anywhere/everywhere--and I guess you know Gwinnett's philosophy of education---go to Boortz.com and read his opinion of their grading system--'A--' backwards--I would not care for that. shaking my head ---if you find you prefer another type of job--there are plenty of things that teachers can do around here...LOL--I keep telling Boortz that he needs to move on down to his empire in Venice, FL and I'll take his job...I would be So Much Better---ROFLMAO--then I would share with the world what Teachers in 'Government' schools think of Boortz...oh--The Pain!!!

As for housing---look at Manchester Walk--Lawrenceville/Dacula/Winder area. Bowen Homes---I loved them--3 floor plans starting around $159,000---small yards---yeah!!!--tired of yard work. I guess they are considered 'Intown' homes---

Lots of other communities going up in this area...I know I would really like it there---except for state road 316---might not be so bad at that end--horrible where it merges off 85 north...

Always under construction--continous gridlock --it makes the news a lot.

I might apply to Barrow county--the Winder/Dacula area---just could not support the reverse grading system in Gwinnett.

Good Luck!

sls

Talking More offers came in from Lawrencevill, Lilburn and Dulth

Thanks for the info. More calls came in later to set up interviews with these other schools. Of the five areas in question where is the lower crime and betters schools. Farming area does not matter. I thought my husband wanted to find same type of employment but he is ready to leave hog farming. Any info on age group swim teams for children? This would be a great plus for my son.
Thanks
