That's a tall order to fill.
I would say Dunwoody or Sandy Springs. Relatively close to the singles (who live mostly inside the 285 beltway) and close to marta train which will take him to work possibly or directly to the airport where he can board a plane home to see his mom.

If he wants to save up, I have a place where $289,000 houses were built right across form a palce. Only incident I heard of was a range rover having it's front windows broken out. Very isolated incident.

A retired police dog lives next door. $650 a month.

Police pension and a small human family as roommates.

Just kidding, I wrote that wrong.

He'll have to go well outside of Atlanta. There are no safe areas in the city. It's one huge ghetto slum.

OP, please disregard anyone who paints with such a broad brush. There are many good areas within the city limits of Atlanta that a young single man with any good amount of sense can feel safe. Midtown, Virginia Highlands, Buckhead, Lenox, etc, etc.

If he wants to be a little further out, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Smyrna/VInings/Cumberland. Anything much further past the perimeter (285) will make for a tough commute.

Is he used to a larger city? It won't take long to learn what are good parts of town and what areas to avoid. Any city of any size has its parts of town that one wouldn't want to hang out in during certain hours.

However, he should do just fine if he develops a good friend base and stays out of trouble. A lot of victims of crime in cities like Atlanta are surely innocent, but many cases do stem from unwise activity and hanging with the wrong crowd. As a mom, I am sure you have instilled this sense of proper behavior.

All the best in the search. A knowledge of exactly where his work will be would help us to give more specific details.
