I'm moving to Atlanta in the fall and was wondering what neighborhood I should look for apartments in. Everyone up until now has said Buckhead but I'm sure there are other options!

I'm a 21-year-old female, graduating from a major private university and working in PR/communications (probably in Midtown). I'm going to have a car but would also like to be near public transportation. I love shopping (department stores and trendy boutiques), and would like to be near things like Borders/Trader Joe's/Target/public libraries. It would be nice to be convenient to trendy restaurants and nightlife, although I don't really go out too often and also prefer dive bars to dance/exclusive clubs. I'm pretty liberal and would love to be in a fun, young neighborhood but I also like it to be quiet. I used to live in New York and there I would like to live in either the East Village or the Upper East Side if that helps for reference.

Price is kind of an issue as I am a recent grad ... I'm looking to pay around $1000-1200/month for a one-bedroom. Safety is also very important as I will be living by myself. Traffic is not really a problem for me -- I was born and raised in D.C., so I am used to it!

There is Sandy Springs, Roswell, Dunwoody, North Decatur area (North Druid Hills etc...), and there are lofts where 75 meets 20 (around Ralph David Abernathy Fwy area I believe that is).

I would recommend Midtown to you. It meets the following things on your wish list:

Trendy restaurants, night life, shopping and a more urban feel. Also, Piedmont Park, Atlanta's version of Central Park (designed by the same landscape architect) is also located in Midtown. Borders, Trader Joe's, Target and public libraries are also close by.

Check out these websites:

Midtown Alliance

Piedmont Park Conservancy
Midtown Mile Atlanta . An Urban Retail Experience (http://www.midtownmile.org/ - broken link)
Store - Borders - Books, Music and Movies

You could also go shopping at Atlantic Station - Life Happens here. which is adjacent to Midtown. You could catch a free shuttle from the Arts Center MARTA Station.

Since you will be working in Midtown, the commute would be a breeze.

Good luck and welcome!!!
