I will be visiting and staying with friends on the west coast and would like to bring them a host/hostess gift from Atlanta to thank them for having me stay with them. I'm at a loss as to what to bring that would be something nice and unique from Atlanta. My hosts are a married couple with a preteen boy and girl.

Do you have any suggestions on what would be a unique gift to bring? I was thinking of something that would be southern, but am open to other suggestions as well. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

There is a ceramic/gift shop in the Village of Stone Mountain that carries some nice pieces with Southern flair.

I cannot think of the name right now. The Art Station is also located in the Village of Stone Mountain and I'm certain there are many other shops that might have something you would like.

There are probably a number of shops in Decatur that would also have such pieces. I think a picture or a ceramic piece might make a good gift for the entire family.

The Margaret Mitchell House has a gift shop, as does the Atlanta History Center.

Heck, make a gift basket. Stick a box of grits in there, some Peaches, pickled pig's feet, sweet potato pie, and a miniature Rebel flag.

But do have a camera ready when you give it to them.

If that doesn't work, go to a photo place and as a "backup" get a nicely framed skyline shot of Atlanta in a natural wood frame, and give that to them ;-)

Just don't make the mistake I did. I filled a basket with peach salsas, Paula Deen marinades, Pecan delicacies, etc, and had almost all of it confiscated while going through security. I got that the marinades were liquid, but, peach salsa? Live and learn...

basket's too big to bring on plane...heck, delta probably has a 'hostess gift carrying fee!'
I'm all about a nice cheese plate (small) or coasters. Margaret Mitchell House or High Museum have nice giftshops

You can go to Donna Van Gogh's in Candler Park. She sells a lot of local folk art and other locally crafted things.

Maybe some 1996 Olympic memorabilia...or items from local sports teams (Falcons, Hawks, Thrashers, Braves, Yellow Jackets, etc.)...

These are all great ideas (except maybe for the pig's feet!). I love the idea of a gift basket of food items. Looks like I'll be doing some shopping!

You can still sweep up a bucket full of broken glass from the tornado that hit downtown a couple years ago. Sort of like when everyone had ashes from Mt. St. Helens.
