Okay, this might seem stupid, but I'm curious. I went outside to bring in my miniature greenhouse, and I noticed that the rainwater on my table had yellow dust floating in it. I'm quite sure that the dust is sulfur, and I noticed streaks of it in the puddles outside of my home and in the neighborhood. This is the first time since I was a child that I noticed rain like this.

Is this a regular occurrence? Is Atlanta's atmosphere so polluted? If I leave my herbs out in the Atlanta rain, will they still be safe to eat?

Considering the time of year, it's probably pollen. I don't know if you're an Atlanta native, but starting in probably a week or so pollen will cover everything to the point that you can see it on sidewalks, cars, etc. Sometimes it's so bad that you can see clouds of it floating in the air. And then when it rains it will streak down the street and pile up in the gutters. That's probably what you're seeing; I've noticed it's already starting as there's been some on my car since the weekend.

It's definitely pollen...not acid, pollution or sulfur.

The yellow you see is pollen. Rain brings down the pollen. I hope it keeps raining so the rain keeps the pollen down. I think acid rain is a bigger problem in the eastern Midwest. I wouldn't know if acid rain is a big problem in Atlanta, but I know Atlanta has some pollution issues.

I believe that it was the OP in his crosshairs, not you.

Now, now. . . don't be cruel. I'm originally from Fitzgerald, GA, but I have lived in D.C. So, it's just pollen, huh? Oh great. I knew I should have started Zyrtec weeks ago. Hello misery.

Maybe you'll be fine. Do you know if you're allergic to pine pollen?
