I believe people could come up with tons of things that show buying a lottery ticket is nothing like being in a casino. Those who completely oppose gambling of all sorts for religious or other reasons usually make that comparison though (though I've found that many who publicly are outspoken against gambling usually have a lotto ticket hidden in their wallets).

That being said, an interesting thing to bring up using the word "lottery"... You can bet (no pun) a lot of money (and win the bet) that the lottery will do whatever they can behind the scenes to oppose ANYTHING that could hurt lottery ticket sales - including hiring P.R., Marketing, and Law folks to oppose it.

I personally believe that if it is done correctly it could reshape the image and economy (for the better) of this city.

Thoughts?
It would be good for the city. With the amount of convention and tourism we get, it would be great to have. Plus people from Alabama would come here to play too.

It is alot different. Probably 90% of the money the lottery makes is from residents of the state. A casino in the downtown area would probably make 75% of its money from residents of other states.

What I ment by not being different is that it is all gambling. Crime didnt rise in Vegas or AC because of their casinos. Vegas is making too much money from casinos, that money needs to be spread around IMO to other cities. I would tell the people who do not want a casino in Atlanta that they are not required to come. Nobody will put a gun to their head and make them visit. Gambling is entertainment just like watching sports, going to a club, etc.

I agree.

Me personally, I dont gamble. I may purchase one lottery ticket every 3 years at the max. Just because I dont gamble doesnt mean that everybody else shouldnt gamble. The same can be said regarding strip clubs, etc. Its all entertainment in my book. Everybody has different ways of being entertainment, the city should expand into new forms of entertainment to help bring in more money to the city.

I have a hard time believing a casino will be built anywhere in Georgia while Sonny Perdue is governor.

Thankfully, Sonny-Bubba is term limited. We only have to endure him for less than 2 years now.

I agree that with Prude it will be hard to get this done. As far as being the same as the lotto, that is just incorrect, a lotto doesnt poor millions or billions into local businesses directly; like a casino would.

Maybe I am a hypocrite here. I enjoy a good poker game every now and then but I don't want a casino in my city. Vegas is special, unique. I would not want to copy the other regions that have casinos- downtown needs to be revitalized in other ways (which is happening slowly but surely)
