I will be relocating to the Atlanta area some time in the future. Right now I live in St. Louis, MO and belong to a great country club. It's private and there are lots of wealthy African Americans who are members. Basically it's the whose who of the StL. A few miles outside of Atlanta is fine.

In which part of the metro area do you plan to live? If you are considering the Executive Park/Emory area the Athletic Club Northeast on Sheridan Rd is a possibility. It opened in the early 80's and has many professional members. That is really all I know. The facilities appear to be well-maintained from what I see when I drive by.

Also, the Golf Club of GA in Windward. Most of the country clubs in Atlanta are mixed, despite the conclusions drawn by the OP.
