I thought this was an interesting perspective on mixed-use developments...

"A square peg in a round hole is how some commercial developers describe the integration of restaurants into their mixed-use-residential developments. "Like a bull in a china shop,"

If you live in a mixed-use community, there is nothing worse than an unwelcomed odor, the impeding traffic or the other physical challenges that come with a restaurant’s girth. At the same time, we love the idea of having access to a trendy menu just a short walk away..."

Am I the only one who has no idea what that article is about? It reads like Todd Semrau used stream-of-consciousness until he met his quota, then thought Thank f**k I made that deadline, typed "Until next time..." and hit Send.

That would vary from the individual. There are those who like to live in a dense area where they don't have to drive for everything. Then there are those who like to live isolated where they need a car for everything. I prefer mixed use development and walkable areas. I hate having to drive everywhere when I could walk or use public transportation. In the long run, Atlanta area will have no choice but to create more of that because the population continues to grow and will make traffic even more horrible. For me there is nothing worst than having to sit in traffic for over an hour just to get back and forth from work or for anything. It's a wise investment and Americans are starting to see that it's actually good. When I watch older American movies, I notice how things look different. You see sidewalks and houses near everything. The older cities were built that way. People have forgetten that with the era of cars and every household having two or more cars. One can actually save a lot by not needing that many cars and being able to walk or have other transportation options. It's also better for our overall health. Right now it's still considered something special to live in area like that because there isn't much of that except in certain areas but I believe there will be more of that as more people will wanna give up the suburban life of driving everywhere for living closer to grocery stores, doctors, schools, etc.

I agree with a lot of your post. My husband and I moved from the burbs into the city because the long commute to work was taking a toll on our mental and physical health. I know in-town living is not for everyone, but we are certainly enjoying it.
