Just curious how various Atlanta employers handle time off for voting, especially since long waits are expected this year.

For me- I work at a Fortune 50 company and there is no official paid time off policy for voting. Though my manager has told me my missed time for voting will be "off the books".

We get time off in the amount that will allow us three hours to vote, meaning, if I normally get off at 4:30, they let me leave at 4, which gives me from 4 - 7 (3 hours) to vote. So, I get 30 minutes off.

But I already voted, and I didn't take any time off.

is 3 hours enough time to vote ? I've heard of people waiting in line for 8 hours to vote.

The 8 hours was due to a technical glitch. That's not the norm.

I voted in two hours on Monday. Three hours should be enough at this point. From what I hear, lines are getting shorter as the week goes on.

There's no way to know the answer to that, but I've voted in every election since 1992 and it's never taken three hours.

Is there some reason why you HAVE to wait until Tuesday?

If you want to vote as quickly as possible, go Friday night right before polls close. Friday is Halloween. Most people will be dealing with Halloween stuff at that time and lines will probably be short.

I'm sure there will be places that it will take longer than three hours. The key is to arrive at the polls on time. The law guarentees you the right to vote as long as you are there before the polls close, no matter the wait time.

According to Georgia Code 21-2-404 - Your company is required to give you two hours off to vote unless the polls are open two hours before of after your regular working shift. On an election day, Polls are open from 7am - 7pm. However, any voter who is waiting in line at 7pm will be allowed to vote. [FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]
