Hello.

I will be moving to ATL in about 3 months and plan to bring me experience in social services with me to land a job helping. I've worked extensively in Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and with behaviorally challenged teens. I have a 4 year degree, and would like to complete my Master's once I settle in GA, but for right now I need leads!!!!!

I'll be living temporarily in Conyers, (yes I understand I will have to commute), I just am asking for a little assistance.

Thanks for any help.

I'm really starting to feel like the raven on this topic. If you're in social services and only have your income to rely on, don't come to Atlanta. I've been looking since February, fifteen years experience in child welfare and an MSW and I've gotten exactly four interviews and one, 'we can't afford you,' since I've been here.

I worked for the state of Alabama for five years, DFCS is having a 'hiring slow down,' I've probably applied for 30+ jobs over there and haven't gotten so much as an interview.

Check the hospitals, they're typically looking for intake and assessment people. I interviewed at Grady but don't have enough mental health experience. Dekalb might also be a good option for you. Check opportunityknocks.com, I've gotten some good leads there.

My situation is nobody is paying enough to justify daycare expense for my son, perhaps your situation is different. The highest salary I've seen thus far is $31k, and I would've taken it, but they didn't offer. I've applied for jobs that paid as low as $24k.

Again, sorry for the bad tidings, but those are the facts about social service jobs over here.

Thank you for responding. That's rediculous!!! I wondered about the social service jobs in ATL the last time I was there visiting. I actually got a couple call backs from DCFS, but I was here and was unable to interview.

I looked at the hospitals and I thought I was limited due to only having a 4-year degree in Human Services. I definitely went to bed last night contemplating such a move due to the fact I live up North. IDK I'll keep watching. One advantage I may have is my MH background. Again, I appreciate your reply. Good luck and don't give up something will break.

I'm pretty desperate for a job right now, but I'm not quite willing to move to California for one. Thanks for your help.
