Just by looking at houses on the internet, I don't see in the description for homes in Roswell that they have swim/tennis clubs in the neighborhoods. I heard this was a good way to meet other kids. Should we focus on Alpharetta? Also, can the kids ride their bikes or go rollerblading in these neighborhoods with all these hills???

I live in East Roswell, quite close to Centennial High School, and I can't think of any neighborhoods nearby that don't have swim/tennis clubs. Ours does, and we only have 60 houses in the neighborhood. Woodfield, River Terrace, Horseshoe Bend, etc., all do. Martin's Landing actually has two pools on opposite sides of the lake, plus the river club property across Riverside Drive on the Chattahoochee. If you're looking closer to downtown Roswell, it may well be the case that there are neighborhoods that don't, but most of those will have some sort of arrangement with another club nearby.

Biking and rollerblading on the hills can be a challenge for younger kids, but it doesn't seem to bother most of the older ones in our neighborhood (which has some dramatic elevation changes in a pretty small area).

Default S/T in Roswell

Depends on exactly what you are looking for.

If you want newer vibrant Master Plan communities, then both Roswell and Alpharetta are not good choices.

All the new stuff is farther North. Check out a neighborhood like Windermere which has more kids running around it than you can count! Great neighborhood and there's still new construction in there.

Thanks, Rob

Thanks for the tips. I have a problem with living in a town called Cumming. Plus we'd want to be close to my husband's job which is in Alpharetta near the Northpoint Mall. I like all the outdoor options that I'm reading about in Roswell. Just worried about the schools and having kids nearby.

There is a wonderful YMCA - Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA in Alpharetta that's nicer than many sports clubs. Has a great teen center.

There are TONS of neighborhoods in the Alpharetta area with Swim/Tennis available (and even Golf) - Windward, Seven Oaks, Brookfield, Oxford Lakes, Kimball Falls, Glen Abbey. Thornberry, Crooked Creek - just to name a few. Give me your price range and I will give you a complete list.

Since your husband is going to be working near northpoint you are pretty much in the center and can go either on the East of West side of 400. I live in the Crabapple/Milton area but have lived on the East side as well in WIllow Springs and Seven Oaks. We lived up in Cumming for a little over a year and I hated it. Nothing against anyone living there, but the traffic is horrible. Now Alpharetta does has it moments. I think the traffic is a little more conjested on the East side of 400 but again it depends on "where" you live and the best routes you take.

Hope that helps some

One more thing - Rollerblading and riding bikes: Our neighborhood has some hills which is great for walking. But after school and on the weekends we have so many kids rollerblading, skateboarding, riding bikes - it is great. Having lived in South FLA where everything was FLAT it was such a treat to move here and have hills to ride up and down - nothing a kid can't handle! Plus we have a neighborhood lake and the kids just love to fish and canoe. Take some time to drive to the neighborhoods if you can - sometimes you just can't get the best idea of a neighborhood online. Especially if you have kids, if you are here go drive on the weekend and see how many kids are playing outside, what they are doing, activities, etc.

I heard you can join Brookdale (or maybe Brooklawn) Country club for swim and tennis. I think it is about $170 (pool only) a month but I am not sure. It is in Roswell and has pool tennis and golf.
