I just received a job offer in Alpharetta (Exit 12), should I live in Alpharetta or Roswell? I'm a single parent of a toddler and I most likely will be renting an apartment. I would appreciate apartment and daycare recommendations as well. My budget is $1000. I will be frequently the city often to attend church and visit family.

It won't matter a whole lot. Roswell exits are exits 7 and 8. Alpharetta exits are 9, 10 and 11.

There are only 6 miles between exit 7 (Holcomb Br Rd) and exit 11 (Windward Pkwy). In light traffic this is about 6 minutes. In rush hour this is probably ~ 15 minutes

Your distance from the highway will play a bigger part in terms of ease of commuting north or south.

If you're going to the city a lot, why don't you go a bit closer, like Sandy Springs? You can get a really small private rental in a stable older condo community. You don't need anything too big if all you have is a toddler.

I think Sandy Springs is your best option. I live in Sandy Springs and use to work in Alpharetta. You will be going against traffic in the morning and evening except for the occasional accident; however, Sandy Springs will offer you access to MARTA (Rail and Bus) as oppose to just Bus in Roswell and Alpharetta. Sandy Springs is halfway between Alpharetta and Atlanta so you will not have a horrible commute. Also, Sandy Springs gives you access to I-285 and GA-400, whereas Roswell and Alpharetta only give you access to GA-400 and some back roads.

Be careful though about Sandy Springs. The most affordable apartments generally aren't very nice. There are lots of older apartments in Sandy Springs. I am not sure what the newer apartments cost, but you need to look carefully.

Some of the old junky ones to watch out for are on Roswell Rd North of Abernathy.

The other nice thing about Sandy Springs long-term is it'll open up more job options for you for your career. It'll give you better access to Cumberland, midtown, Buckhead, downtown, etc. Though that's probably not important the first couple years of your new job. You probably don't want your resume to make you look like a jumper. But eventually that'll matter.

Exit 12 (McFarland Parkway - was once McFarland Road)

is also Alpharetta... worked that area for many years...
There's some nice town houses near Morris Road - Webb Bridge -
Can't help out with daycare info - but it's a nice area that I'm sure can meet your needs.

Welcome South!

Since you're the single parent of a toddler, I would say exit 12 is your best bet (proximity to home, work, childcare). You never know when you have to haul over to the sitter/preschool from work or take the kiddie to the doctor immediately. You should take a look at the cumming side of exit 12 and may find something there? If you're just going into Atlanta on the weekends, traffic isn't too bad...my vote exit 12.
