The main thing I'd like to see with this interchange would be an improvement in the way you get on GA 400 southbound when you are heading west on 285.

I can never remember how many lanes to the right you are supposed to get over and even when I do it's still hard to accomplish.

Second-to-right lane.

Braided ramps will allow entering traffic to not contend and merge with traffic bound for 400. Good idea, since I notice the backup on 285 is Ashford Dunwoody traffic merging with traffic bound for 400.

Even worse, 285 blocks in Ashford Dunwoody traffic. 285 drivers cut in the 285 on ramp.
285 drivers don't even have the courtesy to let us drive down the ramp to actually get onto 285.

What I'm getting at is the volume the interchange can carry from I-285 to 400N will be even larger. That will, in the afternoon, back up 400N coming from Buckhead even more because a major bottleneck that was formerly backing traffic onto 285 decreasing competition with the people heading North from Buckhead in the afternoon will be gone. It will also alleviate that backup on 285, making it easier to get across the former great wall of 400 along 285. Obviously, for those that go from 285 to 400N, there will be no difference other than they get to 400 a little faster than get backed up just the same.

I doubt there will be much impact as merging will be slow regardless of the design or number of lanes. I'm sure decades ago, many thought wider interstates and wider, bigger interchanges would improve flow.
