I sure hope so. I'm a major proponent for MARTA/transit expansion in our region, but I think the Northern Arc is sorely needed as well. At the very least to help take some traffic off 285.

Here's the article. Source is the Cherokee Ledger-News. Have at it!

They can widen 20 but there isn't room for a real northern arc, thankfully. It's already too built up out there for that to happen. I doubt the area will have any new highways for a long time to come.

Did you read the article? It mentions a few different options including lots of seizing of properties.

It really sounds like this will be a major uphill battle, but it is very much needed.

I completely agree that some kind of outlying alternate route is needed to attempt to relieve through traffic from Interstate 285, but if any of the residents of Forsyth and Cherokee and their hardcore anti-road construction Intown counterparts even remotely suspect that this project is the second coming of the much-hated erstwhile Northern Arc, all hell will break loose politically.

Seeing as though the Northern Arc proposal played a starring role in the demise of the once ultra-powerful Georgia Democrats back in the early 2000's, for the sake of the currently ultra-powerful Georgia Republicans (who have struggled somewhat in their governance of the state during their first decade of political dominance), any proposals to improve GA 20 had very-likely better involve only widening the current GA 20 roadway to no more than 4-5 lanes.

Forsyth and Cherokee counties played a leading role in fighting-off and taking down the first Northern Arc back in the early 2000's.

Any attempt to bring back that road or even build anything remotely similar to it through an area in Forsyth and Cherokee counties that has much more development (and many more angry voters) now than it did during the battle against the road back in the late '90's and early 2000's can only mean BAD NEWS to the political party in power (which in this case is currently the Georgia Republicans).

Openly proposing to build a Northern Arc-type of roadway between GA 400 and I-575 in Forsyth and Cherokee counties is the quickest way to guarantee that NOTHING gets done along a corridor where improvements are clearly needed.

I think you deserve the award for understatement of the year.

Atlanta badly needs an outer beltway.

Because these 2 counties will never have MARTA rail or commuter rail, it sorely needs an upgraded east-west connection.

GA 92 has been widened to 4 and 6 lanes in the southern part of Cherokee which is MUCH more congested than this area. Many sections have been realigned, many parcels of property have been taken. Don't know why these guys up north have so much more NIMBY clout.

And this improvement needs to go west of Canton to Cartersville as well.

I sure hope that whatever they build will be limited access with enough right-of-way left over for future expansion. The Nothern Arc is badly needed but I don't care what they actually end up calling it. Just build the f'n thing!
