Short version of the story: Someone called 911 and reported a fake triple shooting. SWAT shows up and surrounds the house. The nanny and children inside have no idea what's going on or why.

Triple shooting report in Johns Creek a hoax | www.ajc.com

Now, I am not hopping up on a soapbox because I have certainly gotten in my fair share of phone pranks prior to caller ID. Those calls were to individuals though. OK, I did once have 10 pizzas delivered to a cheating boyfriend's house when I was in high school so I have involved a 3rd party before as well, but I think this prank aka swatting is out of line.

How is calling 911 for this foolishness funny?

It's not the least bit funny.

It's very dangerous and can even get someone seriously hurt, injured or killed...which often is the intent of the person making the 911 call and falsely reporting a serious incident...to try and put someone that they may not like or agree with in a potentially deadly situation out of pure spite.

Of course it's not funny. It's irresponsible and dangerous to the public. Why are you even having to ask this question?

And just FYI ... having 10 pizzas sent to a cheating boyfriend is not funny, either.

For a long time. What an idiotic and dangerous thing to do.

They should also be required to pay the expense. If you get fined $150 for a false burglar alarm then this ought to be about $15,000.

Ahhh ... so because you were pissed at a boyfriend, somebody had to make a bunch of unnecessary pizzas, deliver a bunch of unnecessary pizzas and PAY for a bunch of unnecessary pizzas?

Grow up kid. This world does not revolve around YOU!

Yes, I clearly stated that was something I did when I was in high school. Why are you so high and tight about it?

Not only is it wrong, unfunny, irresponsible, and dangerous, it is a misdemeanor under Georgia law. Let's hope they catch the person and charge him or her accordingly.

16-10-26. False report of a crime
A person who willfully and knowingly gives or causes a false report of a crime to be given to any law enforcement officer or agency of this state is guilty of a misdemeanor.

§ 16-11-39.2. Unlawful conduct during 9-1-1 call
...
(b) A person commits the offense of unlawful conduct during a 9-1-1 telephone call if he or she:
...
(5) Calls or otherwise contacts 9-1-1 and makes a false report.
...
(c) Any person who violates subsection (b) of this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $500.00 or 12 months in jail, or both.
