There aren't any recent threads on commute times from the Mcintosh High School district to midtown (peachtree & 14th area). What time would I have to leave if I need to get to work at 830am? What time would I get home if leaving work at 5pm? My family is moving from Roswell to PTC in March.

Just take the Express bus from Newman to Midtown

Xpress...commuting made easy. Operated by the GA Regional Transportation Authority

Depending on where you are in north PTC, it's going to be about an hour either way (give or take). The tie-ups are going to be getting on and off I-85 at 74, and the downtown connector at Langford Parkway.

If you left home at 7 am, you'd be at work by 8:15-8:30 on the worst days.

Leave for work in Midtown from Peachtree City by no later than 7:30 pm on most days.

Some days (particularly on the days where wet or inclement weather may be an issue) you may need to leave earlier (as early as 6:45 am).

As someone that is usually heading out from downtown to the airport during morning rush hour, I feel sorry for those on the other side of the road (Heading into town). It is backed up every day.

And yet, it's still nothing compared to the commute into the city from the northern suburbs. Like I said above, the slowdown / backups coming into the city from the Southside don't begin until the 75-85 merge at Langford Parkway. And even then, traffic actually moves pretty steadily (albeit slowly) from there into Midtown.

Whew! This is scary. Right now from Roswell it takes me a hour and fifteen to a hour and half each way...we were hoping PTC would cut it down to 45 minutes...max 1 hour.

It's possible. I used to commute from Wisdom Road in PTC (behind the Delta FCU HQ) to Marietta Street in 45 minutes flat. It will really come down to where your starting from, and the departure time.

The thing you have to keep in mind is, the commute really is worth the time. Life in PTC is unique in Metro Atlanta, and the McIntosh High cluster is among the best public educations money can buy anywhere in the country. Compared to many places, the commute from PTC to Midtown is a non-issue.

I would commute from Sandy Springs to just south of PTC at Falcon Field a couple days of week for my winter break. It took me an hour but I left around 245-3 and took 285 on the west side. I wouldn't even bother going through town but from Midtown that would cut off a pretty bad portion of Buckhead to I-20. Just look at 511ga.org to get an idea. For the afternoon commute it looks like the drive south to I-20 is what backs up 75/85 the most. I do know 85 south of the split rarely has any delays. GA 74 has a few lights right there at 85 but generally once you get past those it's really not a problem. I always felt like I was home free at that point. The traffic from there to and in PTC will be nothing like what you're used to in the northern suburbs. As for distance, I actually know someone that is about to do the opposite commute. Work in PTC and live in midtown so it shouldn't be bad. I actually live in Gwinnett and going home was about 60 miles and an hour 15 minute drive but with no traffic. I much preferred that to the hour plus it would take to half the distance but taking 85 to 285 to 400 in the morning. I've seen the afternoon traffic on 400N at 285. I don't blame you for not wanting to sit in that.
