Moving to ATL/Decatur for grad school at Emory

I’ll Chime also.

1. Cost of housing: I live in the Emory box and I pay just under $800 + Utilities for a one bedroom. Like somebody else said two bedrooms usually run between 1000-1500. You can probably find a small, older ranch in the $300,000 range but most stuff is going to be over $400,000. Stuff outside the perimeter is cheaper but there is a reason for that. Condo’s in Midtown are the hot product right now, but I would be a little worried that the market may flood itself (it’s not flooded yet but there are many, many projects both underway and planned).

2. Weather: It gets hot in the summer. I have been here for two summers and it was extremely hot both summers. Not much different from southern CA, but a big difference from Northern CA. Tornados can occur, but they are very rare and I wouldn’t worry about them too much.

3. Culture/Diversity: Not an issue. Atlanta is very diverse.

4. Education: Emory is an excellent school, does a lot of good things for the community. I would defiantly recommend it. The community seems to get along well with the school.
