An old plan from 2007, has risen from the ashes and looks to better connect AS to Midtown.

Spring St. is on a roll. Maybe it should be converted to 2 way traffic and some other enhancements to make it more pedestrian/bike friendly as it densifies? As of now, it's like a small highway through midtown with small sidewalks. I think as it densifies with all the new announcements, it needs to be made more friendly to the growing number of pedestrian users.

More good news for Atlanta, though!

The 17th St Bridge has the best view of skyline IMO. Great location. Close enough to Marta and hopefully get a stop on Atlantic Station shuttle. That would help sell residential units.

totally agree. another thing that really needs to be changed is the freeway interchange where west peachtree merges into peachtree and the buford highway connector comes in. it's a pedestrian disaster. see the map here:

i think the buford spring connector should end at peachtree next to the temple. the stretch that goes up and around and into midtown needs to be taken out.

This would cut off Midtown's only way to get on and off I-85 north of Linden.

I think he means you could still get on at Peachtree right by SCAD, though that may be even more of a traffic nightmare. I don't know what the solution to that spot would be.

I think West Peachtree AND Spring should both have 2 way traffic.....right now West Peachtree is just a 6 lane fast slip road onto the BH connector.

Prior to 1986, both streets were two-way. It was changed to a one-way pair so that the streets could better function as freeway on-ramps at each end of W. P'tree/Spring.

you don't really "get on" 85 there anyway. you get on 13, which is buford highway. the traffic jam is moved northwards near the intersection of 400 and 85. buford highway has a ramp that goes to 85, but if you're going north on 400, you have to get off on sidney marcus. it's poorly designed anyway.

back to midtown, you could connect williams street to the existing ramp onto buford highway at peachtree. that way, if you want to get onto buford highway (or 85) you have to get onto williams street. williams street would eventually turn into buford highway.

the biggest issue is that you've got an interstate mowing through midtown. you could easily get more developable blocks out of that area if the interstate wasn't there, not to mention what it would do for walkability, connectivity, etc.

this is what i mean:
